Blogging – Keeping it Fun

I've published over thirty blogs since last January, with the goal of writing three blogs per month in three categories: 1) Books that Shape my Thoughts; 2) Traveler's Tales; and 3) Life as Art. I rise, brew a cup of coffee, and begin writing. I make no appointments and talk to no one until after my thoughts are cultivated, planted, and sprouting on the page.

The joy of writing the blogs is a wonderment even to myself. The more I write, the more I allow myself absorption in the topics that call me. Thus the blogs are starting to require more time now than they did when I started.

My blog structure encourages me to pay attention to everyday life events and link these to my personal experiences, passions, and beliefs; and by doing so to produce a memoir over time. The blog has given full rein to my curiosity and instead of saying I'd like to know more about this or that, I now give myself the liberty to dig. I often dream about being in university again due to my love of learning. Blogging has become my cathedral of inquiry.

The three-hour early morning writing schedule serves me well, but the added time required to read and research, to dig though my files for photos, to edit, and to format the vignettes for publication means that at times I am writing on weekends to rush to press, over-riding my weekend plans to write fiction and play. Sometimes three hours expands to ten hours, especially in the final week of the month, leaving reduced time for other things that are equally important. All this rushing and stressing in order to meet a self-induced schedule to publish three blogs per month.

Realizing that the publication schedule I set for three blogs per month is stress producing, I decided it was time to change my method and keep it fun. My idea at present is to keep the order of topics, because "Deborah's 3 Muses" pretty much cover what I think about and want to write about. However, going forward I think it best to produce and publish my stories on their own timetable. I will work on one piece and publish that piece when I am done with it, letting the stories, and life itself, set the pace for these little hatchlings.

I am thankful for the feedback I've received from readers that these blogs have cast a little inspiration to others, while also helping me to be more present, more grateful, and to find renewed purpose for living.
